Board of Zoning Appeals

Mission

The City of Piperton Board of Zoning Appeals shall exercise its statutory authority as granted by the Tennessee Code Annotated under Sections 13-7-205 through 13-7-207. The powers of Boards of Zoning Appeals are specified by state statue and include: 1) to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged by the appellant that there is error in any order, requirement, permit, decision, or refusal made by the municipal building commissioner or other municipal official in the carrying out or enforcement of any provision of the Zoning Ordinance; 2) to hear and decide, in accordance with the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, requests for Special Exceptions or for interpretation of the Zoning Map; 3) to hear and act upon application for variances in accordance with the Zoning Ordinance to alleviate hardships by virtue of the inability of the landowner to comply strictly with the provisions of this ordinance by reasons of unique shape, topography, or physical features of the zone lot.

Regular Meetings

Meetings shall be held at the call of the chairman and at such other times as the board may determine. All meetings shall be announced & open to the public.

Members

The City of Piperton Board of Zoning Appeals is a three member quasi-judicial body appointed by the Mayor.

Vice Mayor Mike Binkley

Biography
Mr. Binkley was elected commissioner in 2012 and currently serves as Vice Mayor for the City of Piperton. He also serves on the Board of Zoning Appeals. Before being elected as commissioner, Mike served on the Planning Commission for two years. He is the owner of Rich-Way Landscape, a family owned landscape company. He and his wife Jennie Binkley have two kids, Colton and Michaela Binkley. They have been residents of Piperton since 2003.

Darryl Dixon

Biography
Dr. Dixon and his wife, Mary Karen, moved to the Greenbrier Subdivision of Piperton in 2003. They have three adult children, Savannah, Jake, and Hayley and can often be seen walking their two border collies, Jess and Judd. Dr. Dixon has owned Forest Hill Animal Hospital in Germantown for 22 years. He has served on the BZA board since 2016.
