The City of Piperton incorporated in 1974, and operates under the general law City Manager-Commission form of government codified at Tenn. Code Ann.§ 6-18-101, et seq. Piperton's governing body consists of four commissioners and a mayor all popularly elected and serving four-year terms that are staggered with elections for two or three commissioners every two years. Piperton city elections are held in November coinciding with the General Election date. Piperton's Board of Mayor and Commissioners appoints a City Manager to serve as the administrative head of the city government under its direction and supervision. The City Manager appoints all city department managers and other municipal employees, and is responsible for implementing the policies enacted by the Board of Mayor and Commissioners.

  • The City's Administrative Office is staffed by the City Manager, City Recorder, Finance Director, and Building Official.
  • The City's Public Works Department is staffed by a full-time Director, Utility Clerk, and three part-time technicians.
  • The Piperton Fire Department is staffed by 3 full time and approximately 40 volunteer firemen, EMTs, and First Responders, serving the City of Piperton and surrounding area of District 3 in Fayette County covering a combined area of approximately 27 square miles.
  • The Piperton Police Department is served 24 hours a day by nine certified and sworn police officers. The department proudly maintains a strong partnership with the community, supporting officers as they provide timely and professional services to each resident of Piperton.
  • The City's Municipal Court is staffed by two Court Clerks, a part-time City Judge, and a part-time City Prosecutor.
  • Citizens of Piperton volunteer time to the Planning Commission, Industrial Development Board and Board of Zoning Appeals.
